Use Any Maine Marijuana Dispensary

Lower Taxes on Marijuana Products

When recreational marijuana is introduced in Maine, products are likely to carry high taxes. With a Maine medical marijuana card, you will be eligible for any special price reduction programs or tax incentives. You could save hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Grow Your Own Medical Marijuana Plants

Maine has had medical marijuana laws on the books since 1999. That has given the state plenty of time to get it right! As a medical cannabis patient, you have the right to grow up to six flowering plants for personal use.

Buy Any Maine Marijuana Product

Medical marijuana card holders have access to a bigger selection of products. The most potent marijuana with the highest concentration of THC is usually reserved for patients. Products may be available in more forms, too.

Medical Marijuana Card Useful Information

Maine was one of the earlier states to approve medical marijuana. It did so in 1999, just three years after California, the first state to introduce a medical cannabis program. A whole 62% of the Maine population voted “yes” on Question 2 to allow medical marijuana. Because the state is relatively small, it has maintained eight medical cannabis dispensaries, one in each region.

Despite lots of enthusiasm for medical marijuana in Maine, implementation was slow. In 2009, Maine decriminalized marijuana, making possession of 2.5 grams or less a civil matter. Maine Governor Paul LePage, in office from 2011 to 2019, opposed medical marijuana. With change in the air at the state capital of Augusta, the cannabis industry is ramping up.

Several conditions can qualify you to use medical marijuana in Maine. These include cancer, glaucoma, HIV and AIDS, hepatitis C, muscle spasms, PTSD and a variety of other conditions. Chronic and debilitating conditions that cause ongoing pain can also qualify. So can any condition where treatment causes severe nausea or seizures.

Recreational marijuana is coming to Maine soon. Voters legalized it in 2016, and state regulators expect storefronts will start to become active by June 2020. Experts have estimated the first month will bring in sales of more than $5 million. By comparison, Maine medical marijuana amounted to about $10 million in sales every month during 2019.

What’s the forecast for the future? $84 million in 2021, $118 million in 2022, and an amazing $166 million in 2023.

However, individual towns and cities can choose to opt out. As of February, only 80 completed applications were under review by Maine’s Office of Marijuana Policy. Various industry groups are coordinating with communities to increase the number of marijuana locations. Pent up demand could mean long lines and waiting at the retail stores that finally do open up.

That said, there is no telling how many of Maine’s 500 communities will actually allow retail sale of recreational cannabis. There are still amazing reasons to get your Maine medical cannabis card as soon as you can.

If there are large parts of the state where cannabis is legal but not available, medical marijuana card holders will have the best access. You won’t have to be concerned about long drives to the nearest retail outlet, which could have much higher prices than a medical dispensary. Retail cannabis tax rates are planned at 10%, which can affect the price of products.

Many people are excited about Maine’s future in cannabis. But lawmakers are still tinkering with the rules – and they could change. Getting your Maine medical marijuana card now means making it easier for you to get your favorite cannabis products later.

Remember, it only takes seconds to sign up for our site. Get started now and you could have your Maine medical cannabis recommendation later today. Maine medical marijuana is waiting for you.
